The Research Behind Our Mission

South Carolina is facing a housing crisis that extends far beyond rising costs. Did you know:

  • 50% of renters in South Carolina are housing cost-burdened, spending over 30% of their income on rent​

  • Eviction rates in some cities rank among the highest in the nation, disproportionately impacting marginalized communities

  • A lack of affordable housing due to underbuilding has pushed many families to the brink

The Ethnographic Research Program at Advocacy Q+ takes a data-driven and community-centered approach to tackle these issues. By engaging directly with residents, conducting surveys, and analyzing demographic trends, we identify the root causes of inequities and develop solutions tailored to South Carolina’s unique challenges.
